Nicolet College awarded grant for computer energy conservation |
Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation (WECC) recently awarded Nicolet College a $4,388 grant, sponsored by WPS, for an energy conservation program the college implemented that powers down college computers and monitors after 10 to 15 minutes of inactivity. The energy cost savings for the college could be as high as $17,500 a year. Pictured here, left to right, presenting the grant are project partners Tim Hintz, WPS account executive, Leah Van Zile, WPS community relations, Brian Vaughn, Nicolet director of computing and information technology, and Lynn Schnoor, Nicolet local area network technician. Nicolet IT staff installed special software on each of Nicolet's 1,078 student and staff computers and monitors that puts them into an energy saving standby mode when they are turned on but temporarily not being used. |
